The Gallentean people are big believers in the powers of democracy. So as expected, their style of Government depicts the very same belief.
The governance system of the Federation is divided into three sections
All three aspects of the Gallente Government work to form a complete governance system for the Federation. However, the skeptics, usually belonging to the other races, believe that the corruption of the Gallentean Governance system is something that aught to come naturally to such an open system of affairs where there is no direct power to control the masses.
The elected members of the Gallente society represent the nation in the highest legislative body of the Federation, the Senate. A total of 881 members are elected by the people of the Gallente Federation every five years.
As the name suggests, the basic job of the legislative Senate is to pass new laws and supervise the Government's efforts for the betterment of the people. Taxation and fiscal spending are major issues that keep the treasury and opposition benches of the Senate busy throughout the five years of power.
It is the belief of the Gallentean people that power has to be with the common man. A product of that thinking is the District Governments that govern each of the 62 districts in the Gallentean Federation. Though these governments are supposed to be free to make their choices for their people, the local bodies are, more often than not, pressurized to follow the policies of the central government.
Lobbying on part of the politicians is often the butt of the criticism associated with the Gallentean system of governance by other races. Strong lobbying makes or breaks governments in the Gallentean Federation and that very fact is held out as a positive point by the defenders of the democratic traditions. They declare it to be a check on the government in power.
The Executive of the Gallentean Government is the President of the Gallentean Federation. The President is elected every five years and there is a law that prohibits the same man to be elected twice for the office of the President. It is widely believed that this law keeps the President going with a single track mind to help better the lives of his people without worrying about the popularity polls. And along with that, it ensures that the Presidency doesn't become the asset of one individual!
Though the people look up to the President of the Gallentean Federation, skeptics believe that the President is no more than a look-good puppet in the hands of the lobbyist political powers that 'really' run the Gallentean Government. Whatever the facts behind the two theories, the President of the Gallentean Federation is certainly a key figure when it comes to leaving the other races in awe of the Gallentean luxury and lifestyle, have a peek at the palaces and shuttles used by the President if you think otherwise!
Vigilant, wholesome and somewhat biased, is the verdict on the Gallentean judicial system. The Federation has a Supreme Court of Justice that comprises of 13 judges that are nominated by the President and approved by the Senate. The judges are nominated for life. A step lower on the ladder of judicial status are the judges of the District Courts. There are 62 such judges, one for each district.
As for the impartment of justice by these courts, there seem to be two different interpretations of the laws. The laws for the poor are different from that for the well-off. Not literally different, but different in interpretation. The poor invariably get longer sentences form the judiciary while the rich get off on easier terms. However, the positive aspect of the Federation's Legal system is the fact that the rich people are as likely to get caught for crimes as the poor people. This aspect somewhat redeems the Gallentean system, and to top it off, the social rejection of the well to do people after a sentence is much more of a punishment for them than a few more years on the lock-up would have been!
