If you have to define the Minmatars in a phrase they can be identified as 'tough tribal warriors'. For a Minmatar, there is nothing more important in life than to be able to take care of himself and his kin, his tribe. Many Minmatars choose the life away from the land, but there are those who stay put and take up agriculture. The tribal identity of the Minmatars, most of the time, determines the profession the people take.
The land of the Minmatars was a natural paradise, a place of beauty and serenity. But millions of years of land abuse through industrial waste and plundering has resulted in the loss of the lands beauty.
To add to the woes of the land of Minmatar, the tribes of Minmatar have warred against each other for ages. Though they present a united face to the other races, their tribal differences have further ruined their land's beauty.
The Minmatars are the most populace race in Eve, but a huge number of Minmatars do not live within the Minmatar Republic. Many Minmatars follow the nomadic lifestyle, moving from place to place in search of a living and profession. Quite a few end up being pirates and smugglers and, quite frankly, an overwhelming number of shady corporations and mafias are run by Minmatars.
The tribal society of the Minmatars has faced tough times in the past, and a large number of them still face slavery in the Amarr Empire. The Minmatars were first enslaved by the Amarrs after the collapse of the Eve Gate. The hapless Minmatars lived as a subjugated race for millions of years.
They were given their first peek at freedom when the Amarrs were busy fighting the Jovians. They took the chance with great aplomb; not only did they manage to break the shackles of slavery, they managed to build the Minmatar Republic. Today, though their separate entity is still not recognized by their former masters, they live as free beings in their own land.
A large faction of the Minmatar population is still enslaved in Amarr. The fight for freedom continues, with skirmishes between the fighters and the Amarr forces being nothing of a novelty. Not surprisingly, the relations between the two Races, therefore, are far from cordial. The Amarrians treat Minmatars as rebels and they in turn know them as the oppressors!
A large number of Minmatars live in the Federation of Gallente as well, this in turn makes the relations between the two races a tad tense. But overall, the Minmatars enjoy a cordial relationship with the Gallenteans. In times of need when the Minmatars faced strong opposition from the Amarr Empire in their freedom struggle the Gallenteans upheld their liberal views by fighting on behalf of the Minmatars.
Though there is not much to write home about the Minmatar relations with the Caldari Republic, the relations between the two nations remains tense because of the Caldari disregard for diplomatic norms. Repeated incidents of border infiltration have lowered the patience of the Minmatars with regard to this race.
